Trapnall Hall
Trapnall Hall
Trapnall Hall, located at 423 East Capitol
Avenue in downtown Little Rock, (the edge of the Quapaw Quarter), was
constucted in 1843 by an unknown architect. It was one of the few brick houses
in Little Rock at the time it was built. It began as the home of Frederic and
Martha Trapnall, but after passing out of the Trapnall family, it went through
a succession of owners and uses. Mrs. Charles Minor (Julia) Taylor purchased
it in 1929 and donated it, as a memorial to her late husband, to the Junior
League to prevent it from being torn down. The Junior League sponsored a major
restoration of Trapnall Hall in 1963, and was returned to its orgininal
splendor by the Cromwell Architecture Firm. It was one of the first homes in
the area to be restored. After serving for many years as headquarters for the
Junior League of Arkansas, the League donated half of the appraised value of
Trapnall Hall to the state in 1976. Today, Trapnall Hall stands as the
Official Receiving hall for the governors of the State of Arkansas, and can be
rented by the public for special events ("Trapnall
Hall").
