The
Toltec Mounds
Throughout the southern
Mississippi River Valley, are a group of earthworks known as
the Toltec Mounds.These mounds were constructed by a
civilization known as Mississippian
Indians. They lived during the middle ages and are the
believed to be the ancestors Native
American Indians.They developed a highly developed culture
known as Plum Bayou, which was much different that anything else that existed
during the time.This page will explore some aspects
of their culture, the history of 19th and 20 exploration of the mounds,
and the form and function and the mounds themselves.
